Care, then Grow
The grass is greener where it's taken care of
Grows Us

If someone had told me years ago that my favorite birthday gift of the year would be a lawnmower, I would have laughed. But this year, that simple machine delivered one of the most powerful reminders about growth, personal responsibility, and leadership.

For a long time, our backyard lawn looked dry, patchy, and uninviting. Every month or two, we hired local workers to come by and cut the grass. Yet, no matter how much time passed, it never looked like those lush, vibrant yards you see in magazines. I used to wonder what secret other people had.

Then I decided to test a simple theory:

What happens if I look after the lawn myself?

The Myth of the Greener Side

We’ve all heard the cliché, "The grass is always greener on the other side."

But working on my own yard taught me the real truth:

The grass is greener where you actively look after it.

When I put my life on autopilot - or expect someone else to care about my priorities as much as I do - things begin to dry up. Real, sustained growth requires intentional effort, consistency, and personal involvement.

This principle extends far beyond landscaping:

  • In Business: You can't expect a strategy or client relationship to thrive if you only check in once a year.
  • In Relationships: A strong marriage and healthy connection with your children require daily presence, open communication, and active effort.
  • In Personal Wellbeing: Your physical and mental health won't improve on their own; they need daily care and conscious choices.

A Space to Unwind and Reflect

Mowing the lawn has become more than just a chore - it’s my dedicated time to step away from daily routines, screens, recharge, and reflect.

Walking behind the mower gives me instant, tangible feedback:

When I apply care and effort, I see immediate progress.

It keeps me grounded and forces me to ask a critical question:

Which areas of my life am I neglecting, and where do I need to start watering again?
