As a facilitator and public speaker, I know that what you say has to land. It's not enough to have a great idea; your message must be heard, understood, and acted upon. Have you ever had a brilliant idea, but felt like nobody was really listening? You're talking, but it feels like you're talking at someone, not with them. That frustration of a great message getting lost is something we all face. What if you could change that?
So, what if you could get your point across, every single time? What if every word you spoke landed with impact, and what if your audience was left thinking, "I get it, and I'm ready to act"? That’s the real secret to powerful communication. It's about what you say, AND it's about how you say it, and what you get people to do because of it. Here I focus on "What you say."
Simple Frame:
I learned a simple framework that changed my life. It's a powerful mental model for any conversation, presentation, or message. It has three parts: What, So What, and Now What. Get these right, and you'll transform the way you connect.
What:
This is the core topic. It's the information you're sharing. Think of it as the title of your talk or the subject of your email. It's the "thing" you're talking about. For example, if you're a manager, your "what" could be: "I want to talk about our quarterly sales numbers."
So What:
This is the purpose. It's the reason why your audience should care. It’s the "so what?" of your message. You have to connect your topic directly to their world. For example: "The reason we need to look at these sales numbers is so we can figure out what’s working and what we can do to hit our targets and get our bonuses." This makes it immediately relevant to them.
>> I spoke about this topic when I had a dream to have 1M YouTube Subscribers<<
Now What:
This is the call to action. It’s the one thing you want them to do with the information you’ve shared. A great conversation always ends with a clear path forward. For example: "Based on these numbers, now what? I want each of you to come up with one new strategy to land five new deals this month."
This simple framework has become my secret to powerful communication. I use it for my facilitation, for my keynote speeches, for my preaching, and even when I’m talking to my three boys, Miran, Merin, and Marin.
